We are told repeatedly throughout our lives to baby our skin. Don’t use abrasive washes or scrubs, and for the love of all that is holy USE SUNSCREEN! Sad truth is that even then, some of us don’t do it. But, if you baby your skin, you should also baby your car’s paint. Like our skin, your car’s paint is its largest surface that bears the brunt of the elements. If you don’t properly care for your auto body paint, how can you expect it to last? I would imagine if you’ve had your car’s paint repaired recently you want it to last, right?

Here are a few tips to keep your paint looking beautiful:

  • Rinse, Rinse, Rinse – Before you take any sort of cleaning device to your car, give it a thorough rinse first. This removes any dirt buildup that can scratch your paint when left between your car and your sponge. It’s also a good idea to rinse your car regularly to remove any excess dirt that could be scratching the paint by just being there.
  • Use Sunscreen – UV protection is essential for your skin and your car. UV damage occurs no matter what, but if your car is parked outside regularly or you don’t have a garage for covered storage, then a good UV coating is the way to go.
  • Wax Carefully – Your car’s wax is incredibly important. Take your time, and make sure you do it correctly. Apply evenly and let it cure for 1-2 hours before removing with a soft microfiber towel. Don’t apply wax to a car in direct sunlight. Carnuba wax is your best choice, so read product labels with care.
  • No Touching – If you’re pressed for time and have to take your car through a carwash, the best choice is a touchless car wash that simply applies the rinse and soap through spraying, and avoids the big roller brushes that can damage your paint.
